The application of multiwave diode laser in oral surgery – three case reports
Dynamic development of medical and dental technology as well as the necessity to improve therapeutic procedures in order to shorten their duration, increase comfort of work for physicians and the patients’ experience have led to the creation of multi-function diode lasers (semiconductor). The devices are characterized by small and handy dimensions, low energy consumption as well as omnidirectional applications, starting from conservative dentistry and endodontics, through oral surgery, periodontology, to implantology and aesthetic dentistry (1-3).
One of the most frequent applications for diode lasers in a dental practice is the cutting soft tissue. Their use is characterized by numerous inter- and post-treatment advantages. Laser surgery allows the procedure to be conducted with a decreased amount of local anesthetic, and in some cases its use can be eliminated. Precise and clean cutting of tissue eliminating bleeding allows work with perfect visibility, additionally often eliminating the necessity to surgically suture the wound. Also, laser incisions are characterized by less trauma of tissue and antiseptic properties of the surgical field which favors uncomplicated course of the healing process. Among the advantages we should also list a low level of formation of post-operational scars (3-13).
