A 18-year-old patient came to the orthodontist for consultation. The patient accepted his profile but he was not satisfied with tooth position.
Diagnostics included a clinical interview and a physical examination, analysis of models, as well as a radiological examination: an orthopantomogram and a lateral head teleradiogram were taken.
The extraoral examination showed shortened lower part of the face, deepened labiomental fold, curled upper and lower lips (fig. 6).
The intraoral examination showed class II malocclusion, retrusion of upper incisors, palatal tilt of upper teeth, buccal corridors (fig. 7).
Cephalometric analysis showed: skeletal class II, significant retrusion of upper incisors. Shape of cervical vertebrae suggested end of growth (fig. 8, tab. 2, picture 1, picture 2).
Panoramic radiograph showed partially retention of 38, supernumerary tooth behind 48 – a surgical consultation was recommended (fig. 9).
Treatment plan:
- Installation of Carriere Motion distalizer.
- Installation of thin-wire appliances.
- Class II corrector – to consider.
The treatment plan included the distalisation of the lateral segments, and after the alignment of the teeth, installation of the second class corrector.
