Ocena częstości występowania suchości jamy ustnej i objawów depresji u osób w podeszłym wieku
Title: Evaluation of the frequency of oral dryness in association with mood changes in the elderly
Streszczenie: Celem pracy była ocena częstości występowania suchości jamy ustnej oraz objawów depresji u osób w wieku starszym. Materiał badawczy stanowiło 50 osób (33 K, 17 M, MA: 73,36 ± 7,02) będących mieszkańcami Wrocławia. Do oceny występowania objawów depresji użyto kwestionariusza PHQ-9, natomiast suchość jamy ustnej badano za pomocą testu Foxa i testu Challacombe’a. U 30% badanych stwierdzono objawy depresji o lekkim nasileniu, natomiast u 18% – o nasileniu umiarkowanym. Objawy depresji pojawiały się częściej u kobiet niż u mężczyzn (57% vs. 20%), podobnie jak suchość jamy ustnej. Stwierdzono różnice w średniej liczbie objawów kserostomii ocenianej za pomocą testu Foxa między grupami bez objawów depresji oraz o średnim jej zaawansowaniu.

Summary: The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of oral dryness and depressive symptoms in elderly people. The research material were 50 residents of Wrocław (33 F, 17 M, MA: 73.36 ± 7.02). PHQ-9 questionnaire was used to assess the occurrence of depression symptoms, while oral dryness was tested using the Fox test and the Challacombe Scale. In 30% of subjects, depressive symptoms of mild intensity were found, whereas in 18% of patients they were moderate. The symptoms of depression occurred more often in women than in men (57% vs. 20%), just like mouth dryness symptoms.
