Aesthetic reconstruction of anterior teeth using porcelain veneers
Ceramic veneers adhesively bonded to dental tissues are a modern form of therapy for functional and aesthetic reconstruction of a damaged tooth crown. Their use in clinical practice reflects the biomimetic treatment approach, the effect of which mimics the natural structure of dental tissue (1). Medical biomimetics favours the use of restoratives with properties similar to the structural features of natural teeth. Moreover, the aesthetics of restorations prepared based on this concept faithfully conveys the natural beauty, close to the ideal model of a healthy tooth. The porcelain veneers which implement the biomimetic concept allow for aesthetically and functionally successful outcome treatments with very good long-time predictions. Their use results in natural looking teeth regardless of lighting, perfectly restoring the hard dental tissues with minimum preparation of the latter.
The following are indications for ceramic veneers:
- changes in shape, length, and proportions of teeth,
- aesthetic dressing of unsightly fillings and discolorations on the labial surfaces of anterior teeth,
- correction of diastemata, tremata, and slight rotations of teeth,
- corrections of conical or peg-shaped teeth.
