Case report
The patient reported to the author’s office due to disturbed aesthetics of smile in the anterior teeth area (fig. 1-3). A conversation with the patient, clinical examination complemented with radiological investigation, and preparation of diagnostic models enabled the systematization of dental problems dictating such a state of affairs. Pathologically abraded incisal edges, a small diastema and slight rotation of teeth 11 and 21 coupled with discoloration of crowns resulted in an unsightly predominance of medial maxillary incisors. Moreover, the analysis of baseline models revealed insufficient vestibulo-lingual prominence of medial incisors and a retruded lateral incisor 12. With regard to the principles of biomimetics, the option to correct the shape and color of teeth with classical prosthetics was rejected; it was decided instead to manufacture veneers from Ceramco (Dentsply) silicate ceramics bonded athesively to the dental tissues. The appropriate selection of the restoration color, performed at the beginning of the procedure, is the basis of aesthetic treatment. The colours of veneers were selected, choosing A1 for the medial incisors and A2 for the lateral incisor, according to the Vita color scheme (fig. 4). The predictability of the final treatment outcome is a key component of therapy (2).
