During the procedure the tip of the optical fiber should be cleansed with a sterile gauze as coagulated tissue is collected on it. In cases which require using the 980 nm wave in the area of hard tissue of teeth one should remember that only the application of average power in the range from 1 to 2 W operated in the ‘pulse’ mode allows safe movement of the optical fiber in the area (without stopping), without the risk of damaging enamel or root cementum. In the case of slight tissue damage („black scratches”), their removal is not difficult increasing the power up to 4 W (4).
The multiwave diode laser SMARTm PRO (Lasotronix) is an innovative device characterized by two sources of light wave: 635 and 980 nm. The light wave with the length of 635 nm is recommended for cold procedures in the field of photobiostimulation and photo-activated disinfection (PAD), while the wave with the length of 980 nm allows thermal procedures to be conducted, starting from thermal therapy decreasing pain to incision with soft tissue coagulation, treatment of teeth hypersensitivity, hyalinosis and teeth whitening (2, 4). The laser is enriched with a range of procedures assigned to a given field of dentistry: endodontics, periodontology, microsurgery, whitening, bio-stimulation and photo-activated disinfection (fig. 1).
